Schools

Our philosophy:

Grimm & Co encourages a child-led approach to writing. We empower children and young people to think for themselves, work together to feel a sense of ownership and pride, and become invested in their stories. Pupils have access to one to one mentoring by our trained volunteers in order to build their confidence as independent writers. We take fun VERY seriously.

Our school writing workshops:

Normally, for three mornings each week, Grimm & Co opens its doors to welcome students from primary and secondary school settings. The half-day workshops are bursting with high energy, with engaging and other-worldly activities to delight both mortals and magical beings alike! Our aim is to ignite imaginations, build creative writing skills, develop confidence in writing and motivate children and young people to pen their very own stories. The session concludes with an authentic, purposeful output, resulting in the students leaving as authors!

Teacher Learning Raids –
CPD workshops at Grimm & Co:

Due to high demand, we now offer training to teachers and educators at Grimm & Co. These workshops explore our philosophy and methodology to develop exciting creative writing approaches within the curriculum. The delivery is action-led, which places you – the teacher – in the centre of the experience, mirroring that of the child/young person.

Email Gemma at schools@grimmandco.co.uk for details.

Artsmark:

We are also an Artsmark partner and can support you on your Artsmark journey. Each of our programmes and school writing workshops embed the 7 Quality Principles to support schools in achieving their Artsmark Award. Our methodology and approach was created on a bed of research, which showed the enhanced investment from children and young people when they were placed in the role of the expert. Due to this, all of our workshops are child-led and result in a high-quality output. For more information, visit IVE Artsmark Partners.

The Case of the Missing Memories

Grimm & Co was founded in 1148 (just before lunchtime) by Graham Grimm and he needs your help. Bits of his story have done a runner. Scarpered. Literally fallen off the page. In his wise old age, he’s struggling to remember core memories!

This activity was created for the Artsmark Day to Create project on 6th July 2022.  Artsmark worked with Grimm and Co and Little Inventors to develop imaginative activities for education settings to participate in on the day.  Click on the link to find activities for KS1-4, and try to solve his story!

We also have a range of creative writing activities online for you and your class to enjoy.
